Post viral fatigue?

I contracted a bad case of flu and a chest infection at the beginning of march this year. I've never been the same since then. My symptoms come and go but my breathlessness remains constant every day throughout the day. Was given an albuterol inhaler to help with the breathlessness which I hated and it never worked either.

After getting over the worst part of the flu I was left with severe breathlessness, fatigue, loss of appetite, chest pains, a dry and tickly cough, headaches, back pain, tinnitus, palpitations and an inability to concentrate/brain fog. Sent back to doctor who took a blood test and chest X-ray - all normal. Only the chest X-ray showed I had been getting over an infection apparently. Told it was 'probably' a virus and just to take paracetamol.

Between may and June I developed fluctuating body temperatures, chronic sore throat (even to the point of ulcers in my mouth), blocked sinuses and still the remaining breathlessness and tickly cough. I also started to develop earache. Visited a pulmonologist who gave me a spirometery test and said that I Do not have asthma. Was then told that the doctor doesn't like to label people but he thinks its 'probably' post viral fatigue syndrome.

A month later I've got all the same symptoms and now sinus problems on top of that - really sore throat, tickly cough and mucus coming out of throat and nose (often bloody mucus from nose).

What is going on!?!? Do my symptoms sound similar to anyone else's? I can't keep going back to doctors as I never get anywhere with them. I just don't seem to be getting any better though?

I had post viral fatigue syndrome and it lasted almost 3 years.  I was hospitalized for a week because I had a type A strain of flu.  After the infection was gone, I still had flu-like symptoms.  Like you, I had a fever, swollen glands, sinus problems, sore throat, problems concentrating and fatigue.  I had a ton (and I mean a ton) of tests done and the doctors could find nothing, except for a few minor abnormalities on an immune system profile.  If it helps any, I was treated by an immunologist.  They gave me anti-inflammatory drugs, which helped some.  My symptoms were pretty bad for the first 6 months, but after that they started to decrease.  Eventually they just went away.

Good luck.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
The symptoms of sore throat and post nasal discharge can be caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. It can be enhanced or sometimes even caused by allergies.

Please check out with an ENT specialist if you are having chronic rhinitis or sinusitis. If you have chronic sinusitis then it can lead to continuous production of mucus and less drainage leading to post nasal drip. Transillumination test and X-Ray or CT sinuses can help in diagnosing it. If allergic rhinitis is the cause of PND then it can be diagnosed by skin prick tests or blood tests like RAST.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
