what do theses results mean

hi i just had my 1st pft test done and the rt didnt say one way or the other what it showed.
could u please tell me if its bad or not?
fvc 1.71<<< pred 3.33 %pred51  post was 2.17
fev1 0.78<<< pred 2.66 % pred29 post was 1.05
fev6 1.56  pred 3.25 %pred48 post was 2.01
the last 2 were in bold  print and what do those arrows mean ? any help would be appreciated. oh and also there was something about fev1/fvc 45.60
and fev1/fev6 50.00
would appreciate the help. thank you for taking the time to read this

You really should discuss these results with your doctor and not depend on the RT for interpretation.  Also, any interpretation should be made, only with the assurance that your effort was good and the test results deemed valid.  These results show a reduction in forced vital capacity (FVC), which is the amount of air exhaled after taking in a deep breath, forced expiratory volume in first second (FEV1), which is the amount of air expelled in the first second after forced expiration begins and the FEV1/FVC ratio of 45.6%.  This ratio shows that the FEV1 is reduced out of proportion to the reduction in FVC and FEV6 and that suggests that you have obstruction to air flow as is seen with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

There is another measurement called ‘lung volumes’ and that would help with the interpretation of the values you sent.

You may benefit from seeing a lung specialist.  If you smoke, you must stop smoking, immediately.

forgot to mention that i am 47 yrs old and female and 62 inches tall. i think that is also needed to read the results .
