aching limbs

I am 51 and have had emphysema for numerous years. For a few months headaches have woken me up  during the night and now I also get severe cramps as well.I also swell up all over now and my g.p has given me water tablets and quinine which has helped a great deal. These past few weeks I now experiencing extreme aches and pains all over my body especially in my limbs. My arms and legs hurt so much I resort to painkillers. The pain seems to be deep in my veins or arteries(if that makes sense) more so than my muscles.I have just got over a water infection as well.I am more breathless than usual and wonder if the cramps ,aches, and fluid contribute to this.I only gave up smoking a few months ago and I feel worse now than ever.my body aches all over, the last time it felt like this was when I had flu!

porche you need to go to a lung specialist. A Pulmonologist is the best person to treat your condition. You did not mention, are you on inhalers, oxygen, cpap. What has been your treatment up till now.  With emphasema, it will eventually cause the heart to be enlarged due to the extra workload to compensate for your lungs. You need to have this checked asap for possible heart issues. I cannot stress enough that you need to c a specialist about this.

Vanty, you do not get over this. It is permanant and will progress. How fast depends on if you smoke and exercise. Stopping smoking will slow down the progression tho.
