Yes I get liver ultrasounds every six months along with blood testing this is because I have liver cirrhosis F4 (“F” means fibrosis score fibrosis means scarring)

Ok so I’m assuming you’re talking about NAFLD non-alcohol fatty liver disease. If you’re overweight you need to try to lose some weight the goal being a normal BMI but any weight loss will help.

If you look up a heart smart diet that is also a liver smart diet. But basically a diet rich in fruit and vegetables. Getting exercise will go a long way to help as well. Even just walking every day is a great start. Of course you should discuss starting on an exercise program with your primary care provider.

Just to add not  everyone with NAFLD is overweight but still improving your diet and getting some exercise can help.

Also, try to minimize sodium (salt) in your diet. Heavily processed foods like TV dinners are often loaded with sodium learn to read labels for nutrition content.

There are five stages (F0: no scarring (no fibrosis); F1: minimal scarring; F2: scarring has occurred and extends outside the liver area (significant fibrosis); F3: fibrosis spreading and forming bridges with other fibrotic liver areas (severe fibrosis); F4: cirrhosis or advanced scarring)

Just to add being alive is a death sentence. Everyone dies of something. With having liver disease the goal is to die from something other than liver disease. Many people with liver damage, with care, can live a normal life span.

What has your doctor said is the cause of your fibrosis?

Hi Gibby

Well the big thing is f you can do something to prevent additional damage. Do you know the reason you are F3 fibrosis? If it’s alcohol related if you are able to stop drinking odds are in your favor you may see some reversal of your liver damage. Same goes for if the cause of your liver damage is from NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) if you are able to lose some weight, eat healthier and get some exercise as allowed by your doctor that can go a long way as well in giving your liver an opportunity to possibly heal.

Also, F3 is advanced fibrosis (liver scarring) a fibrosis score of F4 is liver cirrhosis.

I was diagnosed in January 2008 as F4 cirrhosis with liver biopsy and I’m still here still working. My cirrhosis was caused by being infected with hepatitis c probably for a total of 37 years. I had hep c for 30 years before I was diagnosed with cirrhosis

Good Morning Flinlynn   I have mostly had a bad diet and trycrides are all way high however the last blood test they were 150 or 250 I forget . I am on a good diet now and hope liver gets better . nover weight by maybe 10 lbs sand have lost 5 lbs in week . Sure hope yours will reverse . I have non Allcoholic                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              I use to drink a lot of beer however that was 10 years ago. Thanks for the mail .
What is your BMI?

I’m 5’3” and 169 pounds which is a BMI of 29 so over weight a BMI of 30 is obese. Per the BMI tables I need to lose 24 lbs to be on the high end of max normal BMI of 24.9

Your previous beer drinking has nothing to do with your present liver health.

I have F4 cirrhosis it has not improved since my hep c was cured back in 2015 so pretty sure if it hasn’t by now it’s not going to. You being F3 fibrosis May have a chance your score may improve with time. But really as long as your condition remains stable you F score doesn’t really matter. The important thing is to prevent further progression.

Best of luck to you
“ Normal triglyceride levels in the blood are less than 150mg per deciliter (mg/dL). Borderline levels are between 150-200 mg/dL. High levels of triglycerides (greater than 200 mg/dl) are associated with an increased risk of atherosclerosis and therefore coronary artery disease and stroke.”

Good job on getting your triglycerides down. Some other test results you might want to look at are HDL and LDL colesterol and A1C

As far as liver tests how are your AST and ALT levels? Liver enzymes when elevated indicate something is irritating your liver. A comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) is a blood test that measures your sugar (glucose) level, electrolyte and fluid balance, kidney function, and liver function. Glucose is a type of sugar your body uses for energy. Electrolytes keep your body's fluids in balance. Have you had a CMP or BMP (Basic Metabolic Panel)?

Another blood test your doctor might consider is an AFP (alpha-fetoprotein) blood test. This blood test can indicate a possible sign of HCC (Hepatocellular carcinoma) if elevated.
