Hi Gator
Do you know the reason for her cirrhosis?
Cirrhosis can be caused by:
Fatty liver associated with obesity and diabetes
Chronic viral infections of the liver for example hepatitis types B or C
Blockage of the bile duct. Bile ducts may become inflamed, blocked, or scarred, due to another liver disease called primary biliary cirrhosis or PBC
Repeated bouts of heart failure with fluid backing up into the liver
Also certain inherited diseases like Cystic fibrosis, Glycogen storage diseases, Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency, Diseases caused by abnormal liver function, such as hemochromatosis, and Wilson's disease, caused by the abnormal storage of copper in the liver
If you are asking about sclerosis I believe you would be asking about Multiple sclerosis or MS. Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects the brain and spinal cord. Early MS symptoms include weakness, tingling, numbness, and blurred vision.
The important thing in cirrhosis is to treat the underlying root cause then th eliver can begin to heal.
I had hep c for37 years and developed cirrhosis 8.5 years ago. I am still going strong. I was cured of hep c with the new treatments approved in the last couple of years so my liver won't have any additional damage meaning I will likely be able to live a normal life span.
Is she seeing a liver specialist? What have they said is the cause? Does she have any symptoms of cirrhosis like abdominal swelling or lower leg swelling?
Best of luck to you both
Welcome to the forum. Are you sure you spelled the word correctly? Does she have cirrhosis? Does she have Hep C and it lead to cirrhosis?
