cirrhosis of the liver: prognosis

my partner had a scan of his liver last year and was told he needed to stop drinking as he had fatty liver and some scaring, needless to say he didn't stop drinking, he did try for a while and he was doing so well, but slipped back in to old habits, drinking from 11am till the early hours.  he now struggles to sleep at night but sleeps so much through the day, hes in pain all the time, legs, feet, back, arms. hes not very steady on his feet, fallen over so many times and now his whole body and eyes are yellow.  he is sick 2 to 3 times a day, barely eats anything.  I have to work so I cant be with him all the time, I worry that I will go home one day and find him unconscious or worse. hes having his bloods taken tomorrow then seeing a doc. on Tuesday. is his prognosis bad?

Simply put yes it is bad if he doesn’t stop drinking. He is killing himself very slowly. Some of the other symptoms are vague but turning yellow is a serious symptom of advanced liver disease.

He absolutely must stop drinking if he wants to live period.

You should contact al-anon for yourself to get help dealing with being with him.

Al-Anon members are people, just like you, who are worried about someone with a drinking problem.

You should seek out a meeting near you. You may not be able to help him but you need to help yourself. When in a relationship with someone who has a drinking problem you both have a drinking problem they is his drinking.

Best wishes to you both
