hepatorenal syndrome type 2

Does anyone have experience with HRS type2? We are being told that there is nothing that can be done. My niece is only 39. She was hospitalized 3 weeks ago for alcoholic cirrhosis and then kidneys failed. She is on dialysis. Meld score 40.

Here is another link but what I’m seeing is her best chance is a liver transplant but if too ill she may not qualify. Also if the cause of liver disease is alcohol use transplant centers require a period of abstinence I believe this would require 6 months of abstinence to qualify

So sorry to read about your niece’s health struggles. All I know is what I can Google but anyway my best to you all. Is here doctor at a liver transplant center? Could you get a second opinion day from somewhere like the Mayo Clinic?

“ Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is a serious complication of liver cirrhosis with critically poor prognosis. The pathophysiological hallmark is severe renal vasoconstriction, resulting from complex changes in splanchnic and general circulations as well as systemic and renal vasoconstrictors and vasodilators. Rapid diagnosis and management are important, since recent treatment modalities including vasoconstrictor therapy can improve short-term outcome and buy time for liver transplantation, which can result in complete recovery.”
