Medication perscriped by my GP.

Hi,

I have been 500mg of Amoxicillin which I have to take 3 times a day until the course is complete and also Nystatin 4 times a day until the course is complete also, due to a chest and viral infection which all started out as being a cold. What I was wondering from the experts only please is the following; would it be ok to still take over the counter medication as well like Sudofed nasle spray and also take Broncostop cough mixture to help dry up my sinuses and help stop the horrible cough that I have? I'm not sleeping at night because of this.

Hello.  Sorry you have been sick.  So, yes.  You can take over the counter medication with Augmentin and the fungal med you were given.  They don't interact and there is no problem using them. One thing to remember, though, is that cough suppressants create a situation where nothing moves in your chest. Remember that coughing is a bodily function in which the point is to clear your lungs and chest of things (in this case, mucus with bacteria/fungus in it).  So, I wouldn't use a cough medicine during the day.  If you need it to sleep, so be it.  There is a study that states that using a t spoon of honey works as well as most cough medicines believe it or not. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/common-cold/expert-answers/honey/faq-20058031.

Hope you are better soon!
