Itchy Urethra

Well, first of al my name is Chris & I'm a healthy 29 yr old male & my height is 6"8 & I weigh about 245lbs, no diabetes, no high blood pressure, only have Asthma & Migraines from time to time. This all started like a little over 11 months ago with me being diagnosed with a Bladder Infection. My doctor put me on antibiotics ranging from Bactrim, Cipro, Z-Pack & another one that I cannot remember. My symptoms were: frequent urination, lower back pain, lower abdominal pain, itchy urethra & some burning after urination.

My doctor did an urine sample & said their seemed to be a little infection, so therefore he gave me the antibiotics & sent me on my way as well as told me to drink plenty of water & cranberry juice.

Well, flash forward to know, I am still having the itchy urethra, abdominal pain here & there as well as some heaviness in my left testicle from time to time, btw he checked me for STD's as well for lesions & also through the urine sample & said all was negative & that my symptoms did not line up to an STD & I said wheew that was a relief, since I have not been sexually active in a long time, thank goodness... :)

I need to know if there is any way I can self-diagnose this issue & fix it with alternative medicine or herbal medicine, because I would like my life back. Thanks & God Bless

Could you be suffering from a yeast infection? I am thinking particularly of Candida albicans. That would cause itching and all the antibiotics would make the condition worse.

Worse?? Actually I thought the antibiotics would make me better, because I was diagnosed with moderate growth of staphylococcus aureus so the Dr placed me on 5 days antibiotic injection and some two weeks meds. This is my third day but my penis seem to itch more after I pee. Help please
Oh, and the cranberry juice is useful.  So are certain herbs, such as uva ursi.  These prevent deleterious organisms from finding a comfortable home in your urinary tract.  But the cranberry juice has to be without sugar.
You realize this post is years old.  Anyway, my filter picked it up.  It's hard to understand your post -- you say you're getting antibiotic injections for a minor infection?  And then you say two weeks of meds, but don't say what meds -- oral antibiotics as well?  Because this doesn't sound like the treatment for a minor infection.  At any rate, if you're on a 5 day program of injections and a two week program of oral antibiotics, which I have to assume, then you have to finish the course to get your results.  However, that won't be the end of the story, as the antibiotics you're receiving are destroying everything in your urinary system that prevents these infections from occurring.  You're going to need to start taking a very good multi-spectrum probiotic form the refrigerated section of the best health food store in your area, and try to start eating prebiotics such as fermented cabbage and other fermented vegetables, which provide the food your beneficial organisms need.  Somewhere, this part of your immune system was overwhelmed, and you have to build it back by eating very well, avoiding sugar and dairy and foods that convert to sugar very quickly in the body because urinary tract infections love sugar and pro-inflammatory foods like dairy and wheat.  As for your treatment, if the antibiotics are the right kind and the diagnosis correct, it still takes time, and if the diagnosis is incorrect, then you'll need different treatment.  Because of the extreme overuse of antibiotics, many infections have become resistant to them, and this also requires more treatment.  So give it some time, it took you awhile to break down your immune system and it will take awhile to get back to a balanced system.

Is your doctor a Urologist? if not then I suggest seeing one.

Eliminate bladder irritants from your diet.
Increase your intake of water so that you urinate more frequently, allowing less time for any irritants to contact the bladder wall.
Eat or drink more cranberries. Cranberries contain a substance that makes it difficult for bacteria to adhere to the wall of the bladder. Drink eight to 16 ounces of unsweetened cranberry juice a day, or try 500 mg daily of cranberry extract.
Don't delay when you feel the urge to urinate.
Consume probiotic foods, such as yogurt.
Try to neutralize the causes of stress that can affect your urinary system.
