I am so sorry you feel you are depressed because of your pacemaker. I love my biventricular pacer with and ICD. I think of my pacer as heart jewelry with a purpose, I just wish they would figure out some way to put some sparkles on my pacer. HA Everyday I pat my heart and say thanks to my pacer and God. My pacer is my guardian angel and lifeline. Most of the time I forget I even have a pacer unless someone else brings it up. If there weren't such a thing as a pacer and an ICD I would have been dead a long time ago. It's no fun and very scary to think we must depend on some battery operated device to help our hearts beat properly....but I am ever so thankful and grateful there is such a device. I do take an antidepressant as heart disease and heart problems are not for sissies and I needed some extra help to deal with my sick heart. I really do hope you will soon feel better about your pacer and think about asking for an antidepressant to smooth over the rough edges. There is nothing to be ashamed about being on an antidepressant....some of the smartest and most successful people I know are on meds for depression and they don't have pacers...just the every day struggles of life. Please let me know how you are doing. Betina
Hi Christina,
How are you? The pacemaker is there for a reason. It would be best to discuss your options with your doctor and to be referred to a psychologist if needed. Prescription medications may help with the depression. It may also be helpful to join support groups to help you cope up with having the need for a pacemaker. Take care and regards.
Let your doctor know how you're feeling and ask about the consequences of having the PM removed. Hope you're feeling better.
