CAD

I had suffered MI last year(May 2013).Angiography was done & found that all major arteries are blocked.MI was due to thrombosis in RCA which was 99% blocked. While thEre is stenosis in LCx of 80-90%, LAD Block 80%, PDA-70%, I was immediately admitted for balooning angioglasty.Subsequently different docs advised different things. Some suggested CABG, SOME suggested PTCA.While from last 1 year, i stopped smoking, fatty foods, alcohol, tea coffee & started brisk walk & yoga.I read the research done by Dr.Dean Ornish & trying to follow as much as i can (Approx.90%).I can walk upto 5 kms without any problem excpt some mild pain rarely.Should i go for any surgery as i have changed my lifestyle completely.??Please advise.

While I cannot disagree with your advice to sunnyjohn's specific set of circumstances,  your general statement about lifestyle modification could be taken as overly broad by others that might be reading here.

"Lifestyle modification is useful only at the start of obstruction or coronary vessels."

What does that mean?  How about a person with stenosis in only one artery of perhaps 65% or 75% or even 80%.   Are you suggesting that such a patient would not benefit from extensive lifestyle modification and optimal drug treatment,  as a alternative to angioplasty or CABG?

Reading the COURAGE Trial seems to suggest otherwise.  That for many of those with a single artery with a stenosis of 70% or 80% that angioplasty and stenting offer no better outcomes than optimal drugs and lifestyle changes for those with stable CAD.

Now again, I realize in your answer to sunnyjohn,  that you were responding to his specific and extensive set of conditions at his early age.  Conditions that are quite different from many others.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Lifestyle modification is useful only at the start of obstruction or coronary vessels. With vessels being blocked upto 80-90%, either angioplasty or CABG is required. For the same I suggest you to consult a cardiologist and discuss the treatment option with him.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
