Ulcerative Colitis and Sickness tips?

I'm a 19 year old college student with a healthy life style. I run a lot, because I play soccer every other day I can. I avoid junkfood and fried food as well at times. I recently have gotten sick and my U.C flared up making my new years a horrible one. I'm slowly recovering, but i'm trying to get to work as soon as possible. Anyone can help me out by giving me tips on how to decrease gas and the nausea feeling I am getting. I am on Asacol and take vitamin pills as well.

Bad start of 2012 for you. Sorry to hear that. I got UC when I was 24. I am now 52. Not untill recently I discovered that I am intolerate to lactose. It took me 3 years to convince my doctor to have such a test...

Since I stopped all intake of milk products I am off medicines (asacol) for the first time in more than 25 years!

So my advice: have the lactose intolerance test. No matter what your doctor might say do the test. I wish I had done it 25 years earlier.

Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead).  If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future. Hope you get well soon
