Pecocet Use

I was dx with Crohns disease back in feb 07. While in the hospital after takingme off the morphine pump I was put on the fentanyl patches which took about 3 months to taper off of. I was still taking percocet 2 pills every 4 hours. Now a year on and I still take 1 percocet everyday for pain. If it is not a really bad day I take darvocet. Im worried that I'm dependant on it. But at the same time I know the pain is not in my head. Some days I can barely get out of bed. I've read substance abuse forums and it seems like abusers take anywhere from 20 to 40 pills a day just to get that high. But I'm worried about having to take 1 every day. What should I do

I am not sure if you're still on the pain meds, however, I was and am in the same boat that you are in.  6 years ago, I had one of those doctors that just wanted to prescribe pain meds as a treatment, and though naive, I followed him into some serious medication until I noticed that I had a problem.

6 years later, I am on a plethora medications that only one is considered a narcotic (tramodol), however, it sounds like you're on the right track.  In order for you to move forward through the pain and treatment, you need to have your mind about you, and it sounds like you do.  I wish you the best, and remember, we're all here to help.

Good Luck!!!

There is a big difference between a drug seker and someone who is dependent on a medication so they can feel better. Don't let anyone ever tell you, you don't deserve to feel better..

I was also on Fentanyl patches and percocet for 2 years after a hospitalization when the docs realized there was no good rx available for me at the moment. It doesn't sound like you have a problem as of now. If taking 1 pill a day improves your quality of life, it is well worth it!

Good Luck!
