Chron´s disease

I have two serious questions relating to the Chron´s disease.
1. Can it be treated with Cortazone? Side-effects from this medication?

2. Is it possible to have a sexual relationship with a "Chron´s" patient?

Thank you so much.

Hi,
welcome to the Crohn's Community Forum.

I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs, dx when I was 24 yrs old. Cortisone IS used to treat Crohn's, but now only for short periods, say 3-4 months, because of the side effects of long term use.  If the Crohn's is in the terminal ileum area and/or first part of the colon, a newer steroid, Entocort can be used, which does not have the debilitating, and embarrassing, side effects that prednisolone and prednisone do. In the case of flares, steroids are usually prescribed to bring the flare under control, immuno-suppressants to keep the disease, hopefully, in remission.

If the Crohn's is intractable, newer drugs, immuno-suppressants (such as methotrexate, remicade, humira, cimzia etc.) can be prescribed. I have been on methotrexate for 7 yrs,  the first 5 yrs on oral tablets, but for the last 2 yrs I have weekly injections (which I do at home) of 25 mg subcutaneously.

If you want current information on Crohn's (treatments, causes etc.) I would suggest you Google Mayo Clinic and put "Crohn's" into the search box.  The information is factual, peer reviewed, and easy to understand.

Take care,

Hi sdleo,

Thanks for you answer. I know a woman, married and has Chron´s. Her face is very swollen from the Cortisone treatment. They have a fifteen-year-old son. Will he then have a high risk of getting this disease?

I´m a linguist! I completed my Doctorate in Tübingen.

I live in the city-center of Hamburg (Winterhude).
And what about you? Where do you work, live?

Best regards,

JK

Yes you can have a sexual relationship with a Crohn's patient. I really don't think that Cortisone can treat Crohn's but maybe some inflamation depending on where its
at. What type of doctor are you? I am also out here located about 30 minutes from Homburg Germany.
