Suspect arrested after explosive devices sent to Trump critics and CNN

Mail bomb suspect Cesar Sayoc was arrested today in south Florida and charged with making threats against former presidents and other explosive-related crimes.

Our live coverage of the arrest has ended, but here's everything you need to know:

    The arrest: Sayoc was arrested in a south Florida auto parts store Friday morning. The 56-year-old Florida resident has a criminal history.
    
The charges: He was charged with interstate transportation of an explosive, Illegal mailing of explosives, threats against former presidents and other persons, threatening interstate communications and assaulting current and former federal officers. Sayoc faces up to 48 years in prison.
  
The packages: Authorities have intercepted at least 13 packages sent to prominent Democratic politicians, donors and CNN offices in New York, officials said. (Read about the packages and who they were addressed to here.)
  
The devices: The explosive devices were nearly identical and consisted of a six-inch PVC pipe, a small clock, battery, wiring and energetic material, according to the complaint against Sayoc. Some of the mailings sent to several political figures included photographs of the targets with a red X marked across their faces.
  
What President Trump said: He condemned the serial bomb mailings as "terrorizing acts." He said: "We must never allow political violence to take root in America. I'm committed to doing everything in my power as President to stop it."

Well, I can't stand CNN anymore either but that's a bit much.

Kidding.  Well, I do tend to loathe CNN but that is besides the point.  Photos with red X's on them.  Crazy.  

I'm glad that Trump did condemn it as you never know what he'll say.  And of course, it's not midnight yet . . . he could always change his stance.

Have you read (maybe CNN put it out there) that it's all a ploy to distract from the election?  Make Republicans look crazy and dangerous?

LOL  I'm not in love with CNN either, but I read it along with FOX, CBS, NBC, The Guardian, Forbes, AP, NYT, Washington Post, USA Today and any others that give me news; that just happened to be the most informative article I found off hand.  Actually, CNN has cleaned up their act relatively well as far as actually providing news; now if they'd just lose some of the commentary/opinions they might not be so bad.  The only reason Trump is against them is that they don't cater to him.

Yeah, Trump condemned the explosives, but then he was reading off the teleprompter and you're right, it's not midnight yet.  lol  

I've heard all kinds of speculation and horror stories since this started, most of them I read on FOX  this morning but now that the guy has been caught, CNN isn't really saying anything about why he did it because the FBI isn't saying, at least not that I've seen so far.   The article I posted had quite a bit about his past history and it sounds like all the conspiracy theories may to have to go by the wayside in favor of the fact that he's a registered Republican with numerous arrests and a history of mental instability/illness i.e. crazy and dangerous.  

Fortunately, he's the exception and not the rule when it comes to Republicans...

I really don't think any of them would activate. They are saying now some did make it through USPS. I truly believe if they made it through the system either they would be destroyed, detonated in the Distribution Centers, or they were never designed to explode. When you mail a package, it is treated like a soccer ball from the time it leaves your hands until it arrives.
