NEED ADVICE ASAP!

Hi everyone! I'm currently 33 wks 4days pregnant and have been trying to figure out who the father is. My LMP was Nov 28 2015 and I had sex with a friend on Dec 5 2015. I went to the emergency room for abdominal pain on Dec 22nd and took a test that was a false. I again took a test on dec 30th and it was positive. According to online calculators I conceived on Dec 12th a week after I had sex. Would he be the dad or someone else if I had sex after the 5th. Please help, any information will be helpful.

I recommend getting a prenatal paternity test. I did it and the results were accurate

Were you dates close together? Eveyrthing I have researched or looked at online has said Dec 12th as my conception date so thats why I'm thinking the 5th is not possible to have gotten pregnant

I don't remember the exact date after the 5th but itvmay have been 2 or 3 days after

I completely understand your concept but if the uktrasound and my EDD all line up with Dec 12th being the conception date then wouldn't sex anytime after the 5th be the more acurate date? Wow this is more stressful than I thought I just want to rule out the 5th if possible because it seems too long of a time frame to ovulation.

"Sex anytime after the 5th" -- do you mean, for example, the 6th?  If (for example) you had sex on the 5th and the 6th and not again, it is anyone's guess which long-lasting sperm made it to the egg.  Evidently you do not want to say when the other sex was, so I can't help you further.

How long sperm can live in your system is still scientifically a bit of an open question.  Some research says 4-6 days, some says 5-6, some says it can live longer than a week, but other research says it is possibly unable to penetrate the egg after 6 or 7 days.

That's why I asked what time gap there was between the 5th and when you next had sex.  If your choices are someone with whom you had sex on the 5th and someone with whom you had sex only on the 12th itself, given that your your early ultrasound suggests you ovulated around the 12th,  the sex on the 12th is most likely to have produced the pregnancy.  But if instead you had sex on the 5th and then had sex on the 8th and 9th with a new partner and then no more for a while, none of it can be ruled out as possibly producing the pregnancy.  Or if you had sex on the 5th and then had sex on the 15th, it's marginally a bit more likely that the sex on the 5th produced the pregnancy because the egg would not have lasted until the 15th.  This is why I asked earlier when you had sex again after the 5th.

I guess I just want and hope that sex on tbe 5th is not a possibility to have gotten pregnant a week later, and sex after that time would be more logical. I've done so much research and it all makes sense that I would have gotten pregnant around the 12th and even though sperm can live up to 5 days this would have been seven days later so that's why I'm hoping that it isn't the 5th. Thank you for all your input I aprreciate it!

Hi, when else around the 5th did you have sex?  Was it the 12th exactly, or was it (for example) the 7th or 9th or 11th?  If we are trying to split the difference between sex on the 5th and sex on the 6th, then the answer is, you can't know; all it would indicate is that one of the two had long-living sperm that made it to the 12th.  But if we are trying to split the difference between the 5th and the 12th itself (or even the 13th), that is a different analysis.  Don't know how many times I've asked you, but, when was the sex you are trying to rule in?

I'm trying to rule out the 5th just FYI

My due date has always been the same 9/3 and yes the ultrasound was done on Jan 15 so if I do the math manually and subtract 2 weeks from that date it puts it at Dec 12th and not the 5th.

I am not trying to be pedantic, and I get that your concern is to rule out December 5, but the dates are pretty close together so it takes a lot of info to try to give you a complete answer.  Here is what I think you're saying; I'll put blanks or question marks where I'm guessing or where info is needed.  Please clarify.

Period began November 28
Had sex on December 5 (presumably unprotected)
Had sex on December 12 (?)
Got an ultrasound at 6 weeks 4 days from first day of lmp (January 15?)
Got an estimated due date of _________ on ________ (date).
The estimated due date was determined:
(_) by the doctor, from the first ultrasound
(_) by the doctor, from a later ultrasound
(_) by the doctor with a little wheel counting from your period
(_) by you putting 6w4d into an app
Determined from online calculator that conception was December 12 Estimated due date
          (_) has
          (_) has not
been changed by the doctor during your pregnancy

If the January 15 date above is correct (my guess at what day you had the first ultrasound) it shows promise for ruling out December 5, but it's hard to say what date it rules in without knowing for sure what date you are trying to rule in.

Hi, when you got the ultrasound at 6 weeks 4 days GA, what was the date, was that December 30 or was it later?  What estimated conception date did they give you from that first [6w4d] ultrasound?
Avatar universal
I'm trying to rule out Dec 5th since the online calculators and my EDD all say Dec 12th would be the conception date. And since conception is 2 weeks later than when your pregnancy is calculated it makes sense that I conceived on the 12th so the guy from the 5th would not be the dad?

If you had an ultrasound in your 6th or 7th week and from that they gave you a due date, that due date might help you compute an estimated conception date.  But if you didn't have an early ultrasound, it might not be possible to make this determination.  By the end of your 12th week, most doctors will tell you that your estimated due date (if computed from an ultrasound) has a margin for error of +/- 7 days.  By your 40th week, the margin for error is 3 weeks.  This is because babies can grow at different rates, though they all begin at the same point.  The early ultrasound is the one to use, not the first day of your last period.  Your dates (December 5 versus apparently December 12) are only a week apart.  That's within the margin for error if the ultrasound that gave you a due date was after your 12th week.

Hi, so what you are saying is that you had sex on the 5th and then sex on the 12th, and you're trying to determine which one produced the pregnancy?  In answer to your question, getting a positive on a pregnancy test on December 30 is not too early if you got pregnant on the 12th.  What date exactly are you trying to rule in or out?

Oh, and in regard to the question of whether the pregnancy would have appeared on the 22nd if you had gotten pregnant on the 5th, if you had a urine test in the middle of the day, your urine could have been pretty diluted.  A urine-based test needs some pretty concentrated urine to give a positive that early in the pregnancy, and the doctors' offices and hospitals don't use the most sensitive of urine tests.  Also, you said "If I conceived on the 5th," as though you assumed sex on the 5th means conception on the 5th.  Sex on the 5th could have meant conception any time up to the 11th, since sperm can live that long in your body.

If you had a less-sensitive hospital urine-based pregnancy test on the 22nd, and/or it was done with somewhat dilute urine, and if you did not conceive right away on the 5th but possibly a few days later, you could have gotten a negative test result even if you were pregnant.

It was a false negative they said to test again in a couple days my period was due on Dec 26th and yes it was a urine test. From what I have researched and read it may have been too soon to test at the point so I'm wondering if I got pregnant the week after the 5th

If I conceieved on the 5th wouldn't it have been long enough for the test on the 22nd be positive? And if I conceived on the 12th it would have been to early to test?

On December 22, you went to the ER and took a test (I assume pregnancy test) and you say it was "a false."  What does that mean?  They couldn't get a reading?

And was the test a blood test or a urine test?
