Has anyone had to get a DNA test done with their child's father who lives in another state? If so what are the steps of that needing to be done

You'd have to first get him to agree to the test and then buy the court admissible test which requires him to step into a lab where his id would be verified etc and have the DNA most likely swab test done and you would both get a copy of the results. Again DDC is one of the most trusted to go with. And if this if for court reasons you're better off getting a court ordered dna test just so that its on file already.

A big question is whether he is willing to take the test or not.  Some of the big DNA testing companies have lab access all over the world, so that would not be the problem, but if he is not willing to be tested, you'll probably need a court order to get him tested, and going to a different state for one is more complex than if he is in your town.  If that is the case, talk to a lawyer or legal-services clinic.  But if it's just a matter of testing a guy who's willing to take the test, call the DDC and ask them how to proceed.  Don't waste your time on drugstore tests if you need this for the purpose of establishing paternity legally, because the courts won't accept them (too much room for faking the test).  You need a certified lab.

I have not, but my hospital has brochures and information on it. I believe you just need to talk to your doctor who will order the test. Most places have to send the test out to be done. It can get really expensive, so also prepare for the cost. In my town it's roughly $700 to have it done (we were trying to convince my brother in law to get it done because he got a one night stand pregnant who is known to be a pathological liar)
