Nerve damage fears.

Hello!  I had my wisdom teeth removed a month ago.  The dentist told me before I had surgery that on of my wisdom teeth was close to a nerve and he would have to be very careful.  When I woke up from surgery he said he didn't see the nerve and though he had to work to get that tooth out because it came apart, all went smoothly.

I have not been able to feel my chin or my lower lip since the surgery.  The dentist says wait it out.  I feel upset because though he warned me I may "lose sensation" in my gum, I was not aware that this whole portion of my face would be numb.   My gums feel sensitive like there is ice cream pressing against them all the time and no medicine takes it away.

I am a music teacher and I cannot play any of these instruments anymore because I cannot feel my lip.    I also keep biting my lip until it bleeds when I'm eating.  It's only when it finally swells up that I notice it.   This is so very upsetting and I don't feel support or hope coming from anywhere.  Will this go away?   I'm I stuck like this??

It may go away, and it may not. You are going to have to wait to see if your nerve repairs itself, which is possible. I'm sorry about this happening to you and hope for the best.
