Pain 2 wks after large filling

Hi, I had a large filling replaced 2 wks ago after the old one had cracked and lifted.  The dentist thought I might need a root canal, but when she went in there was only a little more decay and the old lining had detoriated so it was replaced.  All was well, and plans for a crown are being made for the new year.  Now 2 wks later, the tooth is very sensitive, I can't bite down on that side and chewing is out of the question.  I think the filling seems a little high - could that be causing the pain or could there be other problems so soon?  It was fine a few days after the filling but in horrible pain now.

If you are in heavy pain then you must consult your dentist, from your given description its very difficult to reach any conclusion...

Yes this did!  She adjusted the bite and it feels much better!!  Thanks.

Right now your tooth is trying to heal and the pulp my be inflamed a little from the vibrations of the drill. If youre filling feels high call your dentist and have your bite adjusted. It takes only a few minutes (and no numbing shots)and can have a big effect on sensitivity to biting pressure. Its normal to be sensitive to hot, cold, and biting preasure for several weeks or even months after a new restoration. Its important to call your dentist if the sensitivity lasts more than 30 seconds after removing the stimuli that triggers sensitivity (hot, cold, bite.) Its important to call the dentist if swelling or throbbing occurs or prolonged sensitivity occurs. Hopes this helps
