ROOT CANAL 11 Months Ago STILL Hurts

had a root canal to my left eyetooth which is under a fixed bridge.
I had to take a few courses of antibiotics but the abcess did go away.
The dentist had to go in 3 times to clean out.

When I brush my tongue across by teeth it hurts.  It also hurts it I touch up at
the root of the tooth.  My dentist told me that lateral pain is OK, (from food pressure
when I remove food by touching the tooth.  He said that the xray looks good like new bone
is growing back.  But originally he said it would take 3months for the pain to die down and
then he changed it to 6 months.  It has been 11 months now and although when I touch the
root the pain does not spread out as much like up to my nose, it does still hurt.

Have you ever heard of this or is this what you would call a botched root canal?  I did not
get a crown because the tooth is under fixed bridge.  Do you think the pain will pass with
time or should I get it extracted?  Thank you for any insight you might have.

wow im almost having an issue like yours. I had a root canal done on an eye tooth (top 1st premolar...bicuspid #5) 5 days ago. I went in on the 2nd day to have the bote adjusted which hurt when the drill hit it! i have pain in the same places as you, severe pain! I even have a bump at the base of the tooth where the root would be. my dds said "oh pain is normal with these teeth cus the have long roots" but im like you, im worrying its a failed root canal cus the pain is sooooo intense for me. i have sensitivity to touch it in the areas you mentioned but now i find myself up at 2:30 in excruting pain...i duno, im thinking i have an abcess or its a failed root canal...please up date this post and met me know whats going on with you

Can you give a little history on that tooth?  When was the bridge done, when did the abcess start, what were your symptoms before the root canal?

Based alone on what you have said, I would guess the bridge is too high and taking too much of the pressure of your bite.  This is fairly simple for a dentist who knows about occlusion to handle, you should have relief in a few days if this is the case.

I would suggest you go get a second opinion.
