Swollen parotid papillae

Hi, one side (left) of my parotid papillae(the thing on the mouth cheeks) is slightly swollen. The right side appears normal. My cheek appears normal and not swollen. Only the parotid papillae is. It is painless. I just found it out yesterday. Attached photo is left and right of it. The right appears normal, the left appears swollen. Why is this happening?

Sometimes patients will have a very swollen looking Stensen's duct....this is their normal. But sometimes patients will somehow injure it and it swells up.  Tortilla chips and other sharp foods will sometimes injure oral tissues.  It is possible that the parotid gland itself is having issues. Sometimes we tell patients to eat sour foods to stimulate the gland....it may sting a little but it may help. Occasionally a little "stone" will develop in the parotid gland which will call symptoms like yours. Go the dentist and see what they say. If that fails, go to an oral surgeon.  Definitely have this checked. But don't worry too much in the meantime.  Good luck.
