Titanium front upper tooth implant causing chronic chest condition

Does anyone know if there are alternatives to having the implant removed?
Been in 2-3 months and I have chronic chest coughing and inflamation.
Very debilitating. Always been fit and healthy with no coughs, colds or flu but now this!
Scared to have it removed but do I have an option? There seem to be little information I can find out about this 'allergy' to titanium. Very scary.DJ

People mention only Titanium as if Titanium is the only material used for implant post. As I looked into it more and more, I find that there are so many companies who make the posts in so many shapes, and some of them have other metals mixed into Titanium. I would recommend you to find out exactly what your post are made of. For example, when I asked one of my dentist what she uses are made of, she said Titanium, aluminum and something else (I forgot). I don't think aluminum is so inert as titanium. Even if you prove to be not allergic to Titanium, there can be something else in the post that's causing you reactions...

Please do be tested for titanium metal allergy before you get that implant removed.  As I said, titanium allergy is so very rare it's almost non existent, and you'll notice the net only has "comments", nothing proven, as that is the same material used for hip implants and pacemakers (look up allergies relating to them for more information).   Not that it can't happen, but it's a one in a muiltimillion shot.  There are SO many other things it could be.

There are other components in a crown that may be giving you problems (specifically the cement holding it in place) or you may have gotten a sinus infection.  I assume you have been checked for a medical reason previously.

Be sure your chiro tests you specifically for titanium allergy.  Because it is so rare, yes, it could be a coincident and may be something else entirely.
It might also be prudent to make an appt with a pulmonary specialist if the cough has been there that long.

Best to you and do let us know what your chiro finds.

Hi Gellia, there appears to be quite a few comments on the net regarding implants and replacements and 'reactions' with Titanium.
Yes it appears rare but there are similar cases to mine. Some people suffer from rashes and other issues including my chesty bronchial cough. Very flemmy. Won't go away. I am fit , train 3 times/week, 50 yo and had all my amalgam fillings replaced 5-6 years ago as, being a Naturopath, understand that 'foreign bodies' can cause reactions/allergies.
It is too coincidental that this health challenge has occurred very soon after the implant. I had a nasty metal taste for weeks and weeks as well. No replaced by the chesty cough.
My chiro is getting a test organised for metal allergy testing. regards DJ

DJELLIS it is now 2021 and I was interested in knowing if your situation resolved or if you had the titanium removed in order to get better?  Sometimes rare is not so rare when we are the statistic. I hope you are well and able to respond. tia

Hi,
Allergy to titanium is very rare (almost non-existent) and it would be unlikely to cause a cough, more an immediate reaction in the general area of the implant.
Why do you think it's the implant?  Have you been to a medical doctor and been tested for this?  If not, you should, as it may not be the implant at all.
