mouth pain...dental or medical?

Help!!! In Jan. of this year had a routine cleaning, but woke up following day with entire inner left cheek and area around back lower lft molar raw presumably from the "sand blasting" that was done to polish, but the problem went away by my next appt. in Feb. to remove and replace two back lower right molar fillings.  Dentist had some trouble anesthesizing which resulted in "nicking" the nerve causing a temporary tremor(and pain like being electrocuted)  All resolved within a few days and then the pain began.  I have had TMJ issues for years but tolerate it usually quite well so I assumed the pain in my lower left jaw was tmj related...1 month passes, pain moves to right jaw then back to left becoming acute w/localized pain in back lower left molar(had rc 6 years prior w/out any problems).  I go back to dentist he thinks failed root canal.. sends me to endodontist who claims root canal was done perfectly but sees the inflammation in cheek and around gum of pained tooth & sends me back to periodontist who sends me to oral surgeon for apico.  OS says root canal had to have been difficult after viewing x-rays and seeing roots laying horizontally( where severely impacted wisdom teeth were removed), but said it was done perfectly, no sign of any problems but decides we should try apico to see if pain is relieved, but in order to do so must remove exostoses(my mouth is extremely bony)  I've been considering the apico, however since last appt 2 weeks ago, pain went back to right side of mouth and jaw now today back to left lower back tooth, outer cheek, and jaw.  Anyone have any ideas?  Pain is severe under jaw, in cheek area near back of mouth and back of neck and ear  but started months ago at center of chin moving  along jaw up in front of ear and ending on top of head first left side then right then back to left.  BTW dentist and oral surgeon say they have no idea what this could be but maintain we should "try" apico, then "try" extraction; endodontist says no way is there anything wrong with the root canal and he isn't the one who did it.  Sorry for the book.

Sorry, I don't think I answered your other questions: odd as it is, I can bite and release without pain in teeth.  The back left molar has severe episodic pain but only a few times since the whole ordeal began.  I also haven't had any further pain on right side of mouth.  It seems to be just the left for several weeks now.  I think the right side was trauma from fillings being removed and replaced and a terrible injection. ( and of course TMJ)

UPDATE!!!  It keeps getting weirder.  Last week I went back to my dentist who saw a tendon like "thing" in my inner cheek deep- near the gum line running upward -and concluded the pain in my mouth is being caused by muscle spasms aggravating nerves and now feels I should get invisalign to correct my bite.  I used to wear a nightguard, but haven't in years even though I should so I was about to say yes to 40 weeks of invisalign but now have a localized swelling under and between back two molars to back of lower left gumline, almost like a blister but deeper...painful, yet pain under jaw has eased a bit even though glands are still swollen and tender.   The pain persists in inner cheek as does deep pain between upper and lower jaw.  I have not run a fever and I do feel my TMJ issues are complicating things but  I am also wondering if all the trauma from examination, repeated injections etc...have caused an infection(the 'blister') yet  I've already taken a full course of antibiotics.  I'm not sure if its gladular, but if so, maybe a salivary gland?  I think a muscular issue is plausible too since it would affect the nerves and potentially cause alot of pain and possibly on both sides of mouth.  I would feel better if any one of the docs could be more definitive in their diagnosis.  I still have no clue, just waiting for more things to hurt or feel better...

I was looking for information on the pain I am in after a dental visit last week and found these postings.  I had a 20 year old filling replaced and have had pain similiar to what has been described by di -fi and lyndam.  My pain has left me wondering if the injections went into the glands by mistake. (is this possilbe?)  The dentist did a new x-ray and thinks that it is not the root dying in the traumatized tooth but the muscles in and around where my face was numbed.  I am hoping that I will not need a rc but just want the pain to go away.  I was prescribed motrin 800 and advised to use warm compresses on it .I am hoping this will subside.  Any advice or evidence that this is just a passing issue from the anestesia. I am having similar problems with my mouth....pain started under 8mth old rootcanal, then to jaw , up to ear, pressure, and glands...the endo can't see anything wrong, and TMJ dr thinks i might have TMJ going on....Can you bite on your teeth without problems and also have you ever run a fever?  I am running low grade fever off and on also..which i think is either infection in glands, or tooth in question.....Since yours is moving around from side to side seems partly TMJ...do you wear a nightguard?   Linda
