Celexa side effects

I've been taking Celexa for 10 months now, and I've been noticing some severe short term memory loss problems. Im extremely worried and concerened about my well being, Im not sure what to do. Is this normal? Is it permanent? Should I switch medications? Also an alternate question regarding Celexa; Is it completely out of the question to take Celexa during your pregnancy?

If the side-effect is distressing then you should discuss it with your doctor.  From what I've read in this forum I doubt it would be permanent.
The memory loss is possibly caused by your concern and anxiety.  If it were from the medication you may have noticed some decline earlier.

It is preferable to be drug free (if possible) during pregnancy.  From my limited knowledge I think it is not completely out of the question and in some cases may be preferable to the alternative.

The doctor here will be better able to advise.

p.s.  If you are pregnant, the memory loss could be as a result of that.  My GP calls it pregnancy brain or hormonal brain (for PMT).

I started taking the generic of celexa, citalopram and have noticed a steady progression of memory lose. I was forgetful before the meds but it is really bad now. I also take depakote so I'm wondering if it could be one of the meds. capsule1

Do you think it wise bringing a baby/ child into that environment?

It's a hard call and one only you (?and your husband, partner, so) can make in consultation with your own doctor.

I knew someone in a similar situation and she tried to harm her fetus while pregnant and later her daughter attempted suicide (due to the environment the mother raised her in).

Are you in therapy to help address the anxiety?  Would you consider delaying having a baby, for a while, until you could work through some of your issues?

I expect this must be quite a difficult time for you.  You should discuss your concerns with your doctor.  Ultimately, if you want a baby, there's nothing stopping you.  It's good to see you working through things though and not make an impulsive decision.

Good luck.

This is not a side effect you would normally expect from that medication. There are many reasons for short-term memory problems the most prevalent being that your unconscious mind is preoccupied with something else and you aren't paying that kind of attention that you usually do. You can do something for yourself which is try to settle down within yourself, have a good conversation with yourself, and be in touch with your deeper feelings and your deeper concerns. It is strongly recommended that you be off all of these kinds of medications during pregnancy. If you intend to become pregnant soon you should try getting off the medication first and learn how to handle your moods with other mechanisms
