signs?

I have been on prozac for many years.  I had my started on 20 mg and moved up to 40 mg...for the past few months I have been extremely irritable.  I constantly verbally attack my loved ones and the least little thing sets me off.  I have thoughts that I might be better off dead...with no intentions of doing anything harmful.  I am diabetic and for the last two years have struggled with a very bad back and my weight.  My doctor just changed me to welbutrin but have not gotten it filled yet.  I honestly did not know that the irritability was part of depression.  It came down to last weekend that either I get help or get a divorce because it has affected my marriage of 34 years.  What do I need to do?  We both agreed to work to improve our marriage and I started taking 80mg of my prozac and have an appt to see doctor in a few days.

I went through the same problem. I would sometimes get so mad that id bring on a panic attack. Id says things that i didnt mean and would cry with regret afterwards. I spoke to my doctor and he prescribed me diazepam for when i have these episodes. It is just a small dose but really does help me. If i can feel myself bubbling up and no that something is going to happen and i will take one. Its nearly always stops an outburst. hope this helps.

If you have been on Prozac for many years....you need to start a totally different medication.  The Prozac is no longer working for you and this happens after a couple of years.  Wellbutrin is a stimulating antidepressant so ask your doctor if it will make you anxious.  You may also need something for anxiety to help with the anger.  If you've never tried therapy to determine if there is a root cause for your depression/anger it would be well worth doing so. I hope this helps and wish you all the best.  We can't help what is happening and it's so frustrating.  Make sure you are seeing a psychiatrist for your medications, they are the most knowledgeable and will know what is best for you. Take care.
