Addiction?

This may seem a little... I don't know, idiotic, but I think I may be addicted to getting sad. And though part of me loves to cry over nothing day after day, the other part just wants to stop but I don't know how. I can't afford therapy and don't believe it works, nor do I want to talk to someone face-to-face. It just makes me uncomfortable. I want to know what people here think I should do.

Yes I believe you can be addicted to depression for many reasons.  For some, it all they know, and for some reason they feel guilty for feeling good. Is the depression chronic, or do you have times where you enjoy life?  If you can, try to get comfortable with these good feelings too, but it may take time.  If your depression is relentless and with feelings of utter hopelessness, please try to get with a supportive therapist.  Avoid the kind of therapist who wants to keep you in a longterm state of feeling crappy.  Cognitive therapy is better to lift your spirits. Then you will be in a better frame of mind to help yourself.  Try to avoid the kind like I had who just make you wallow in your infinite sadness and allow  your psychic wounds to
" ooze"  for months-- maybe years.  You are just helping to make their BMW payments this way.  I thinka a good therapist should leave you feeling optomistic each session, and give you a little "homework"  each time, so you feel like you are making progress. I hope this helps and good luck.

Thank you both. I would try therapy, but, again, lack of money or want. That and I'm not much for effort. Inspirational books worked well the first time I read one, though I don't remember what it was called... It gave me a few tips on lifting my confidence which kept me happy if only for a few weeks. So I'd like to try books, yes, I just don't know which ones are good for that sort of thing.

If I were you I'd give therapy a try, it has changed probably millions of lives for the better. But you could try reading inspirational books that are uplifting.
Such as "the secret". I have so many issues myself too, but if i could get to a therapist, I would , but I cant'because of a rut i'm in, there is also therapy available to low income or no insurance people, it just takes alot of effort to find it.
