Can depression damage a person brain

Was wondering can depression damage a person brain. If so, can you recover from it or is it a permanant thing.

Thanks Meddie. Yes i am young and have been diagnosed with depression. Just seem scary about all of it but you are right. Just wasnt sure if it can. I guess it all depends if someone wants treatment or not.

Well I hope not.  I have had depression and been on anti depressants for over 20 years.  I have recently come off the medication and am fine.  No brain damage as far as I can tell.  I am an active pensioner, do crosswords, read, do board games, etc.

Perhaps other people have a different story.  I don't think depression itself can give you brain damage.  I guess you are young and have been diagnosed with depression.  Am I right?
