Depression diagnosis question

I am skeptical about my diagnosis.

I am a middle aged male.

I was hospitalized post suicide attempt for 3 weeks and given ssri 100 mg daily and experienced mild improvement. I had a history of depression and anxiety symptoms for 24 months prior to hospitalization. I was diagnosed at discharge with Axis 1 MDD, severe recurrent (without psychotic features). Axis 2 was deferred. Axis 3: orthopedic condition, partner relation problems. Follow up care consisted of psychotherapy and ssri.

One year later I was hospitalized second time for three weeks after experiencing a panic attack/mental break down in response to several stressful events the week prior to admission. In the months prior to this second admission, with doctors supervision, I had stopped my ssri therapy due to improvement of some symptoms. Upon second admission, went back on ssri, along with trazadone and clonazapam this time.

Discharge diagnosis was Axsis 1: MDD, in remission, r/o depression due to general medical condition (adverse drug reaction), adjustment disorder with depression/anxiety, partner relation problems, alcohol abuse. Axis 2: No diagnosis cluster b traits. Axis 3: post surgery orthopedic condition, chronic peripheral vestibular deficit

A second opinion with extensive testing after discharge diagnosed Axis1: schizophrenoform disorder, r/o psychotic disorder NOS, r/o MDD chronic with psychotic features, r/o alcohol abuse, partner relation problem Axis 2: no diagnosis with paranoid traits Axis 3 deferred

Several months after discharge diagnosis (not by doctor who gave second opinion) amended to Axsis 1: MDD, in remission, r/o depression due to general medical condition (vestibular injury), adjustment disorder with depression/anxiety, partner relation problems, alcohol abuse. Axis 2: Personality disorder NOS with paranoid traits. Axis 3: post surgery orthopedic condition, chronic peripheral vestibular deficit

Shortly after second hospitalization, lost my job. Took new job and moved to new city three months later.

Two weeks into new job was hospitalized for third time for depressive feelings and suicide ideation.

I am confused about what is a proper diagnosis?

Are you still taking your meds. You can not stop them when you start feeling better. I'm not saying you need to be on them for life. Although some people are.
Have you started any kind of counseling yet?
I wish I could give you a diagnosis but, I can't. All I can recommend is to stay on your meds and get in to counseling. Maybe you might want to think about couples counseling also.

All I can say is that you are definitely not getting the right treatment. You need to shop around and find the best psychiatrist who definitely knows his drugs and the diseases or otherwise you will be doing this for the rest of your life. I had to quit my job also because of extreme and acute anxiety that rendered me nonfunctional, but I had the wrong doc and he just increased the meds that I was already on and then would prescribe new meds in addition to the others. At the end all of my psychiatric drugs would fit into a gallon size ziplock bag that I carried around with me and I was like a zombie with the same problems not being fixed. Then I found the right doc and he slowly weaned me off the drugs and it took years for him to find the right drug and he finally gave me an old antidepressant from the 50s and 60s, it is called :Parnate. It changed my life for the better with very minimal side effects.
You need to be your own advocate and research and ask around about who is the best doc and get help right away or you will spend the rest of your life in and out of hospitals.
I hope this information helps you.
