Going on pills for depression...

What kind of meds is anybody on for their depression, if any? I have been diagnosed with major depression and BPD after a recent suicide attempt and have just been prescribed Sertraline, a generic of Zoloft, to help my depression.

I'm really scared to be on meds since I've heard Soooo many bad things, but for me I'd do just about anything to feel better than I do now. I can hardly function. Any thoughts? Advice?

I wish I could tell you what med would work for you, but I can't. We're all so different and respond to these meds differently. What works for me may not work for you.
My advice is to give the Zoloft a try. You may have some side effects the first few days like some nausea and a little dizziness. These should go away soon though.
Antidepressants can start working in a few days to a few weeks. So, try to hang in there.

Zoloft works for some people but if you're not That right person it may have reverse side effects. Which may end up thinking suicide or harmful to others. I mean they all have there goods and bads but id definetly try something else that's side effects aren't as bad

For years I did'nt tell any of my friends about my depression and anxiety. Then I thought, if they're true friends they will understand. Sometimes it's good to have a friend to talk to about how your feeling.
That was nice you spent Valentines day with a friend and not sitting home doing nothing.
Hopefully the new dose will kick in pretty soon and you'll start feeling much better.

Yeah, I'm up to the whole 50mg pill starting yesterday. Ironic because it was Valentine's day. That was a pretty crappy day, but a friend kinda took pity on me you would say and had me spend time with her a lot of the day. She doesn't know about my depression/bpd, so it was hard to hide how upset I was, but for a good portion of the day, I at least had a distraction. Today will be a really busy and stressful day, and if I make it through, it'll be really rewarding, I know it. I just hope that I can. I can only do my best, and sometimes that isn't very great.

Hang in there, okay. It can take awhile for these meds to really build up in your system. You start the new dose pretty soon don't you? Having a set back this early on is not uncommon. Give it some more time and see how you do on the new dose.

Ugh, maybe not. :( I had another awful night last night, where I threw the most gigantic fit. I was so angry and depressed and out of control. Had such awful thoughts about myself  again. Even suicidal ones. I'm so tired of this! I just want to be normal and okay so I won't keep hurting and alienatIng b my  ex boyfriend and family. I am trying so hard to heal, but the littlest setback is so devastating. :'(

Things are starting to look up. By no means is it completely better, and I don't really "feel" any difference. But I've noticed that I've been getting through the day more positively, especially over the last couple days. Maybe it's just the placebo, effect. But either way, I hope it stays. :)

Hello, I do hope you find the mnedication that works for you.  I have had major depression for 20 years, and have been on  lots of different anti-depressants.  Some worked for me, others gave me side effects.  I have been on Setraline, and it worked for me.

Like everyone says, see how it goes.  If you do not get on with one medication, your doctor will ask you to try another.  Ones that work for some people, do not on others.  Matter of trying to see how you go.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Yes, that is natural. I'm glad to hear your Dr put you on half the dose and is working up to full dose. Please keep me up to date on how your doing. I really hope this med works for you.

Took my first (half) dose today. I'm on half doses for the next few days and then will be taking the full 50mg after that. So far I don't feel any different but it's the first day, so that's natural.

Thanks! That's really helpful, and I've experienced that with my other medication (birth control/hormones), where certain kinds will be wonderful and others make me feel even sicker for seemingly no reason. So I hear what you're saying. I check back with the psychiatrist in a week and will have another follow-up probably a couple weeks after to see how I'm doing. Thanks again. :)
