I asked for help but I didn't qualify?

I have been having some issues, feeling depressed and suicidal for a while.  I have seen my GP and a counselor but need more help.  I was recently hospitalized for a suicide attempt and was referred to mental health and to see a psychiatrist but I apparently don't qualify!  I tried to kill myself because I wanted out or help and I hot neither.  I know I will make another attempt and this time it won't be so lame.  Clearly I did not take enough pills last time and I certainly didn't cut deep enough but I apparently don't need anymore help!  What am I suppose to do, how do I get the help I really need?  Should I try again with the suicide attempt?

No, suicide is not the answer.  If anything you end up getting hurt and maybe get forced into accepting help you don't want.

Depression and a recent hospitalization increase your risk of suicide so I don't understand why you wouldn't qualify.  It may be a polite way of saying that they are under-funded, under-resourced and have no inpatient beds available.  ??

Speak to your GP.  You say GP so I expect you have a health care system similar to my own.  Ask your doctor to refer you.  That could take time depending on the urgency with which it is treated.

Or, phone your local community mental health service and state your situation and ask for more support.  Or go and see them and they will be obliged to triage you.
Or, contact your local psychiatric emergency service.
Or, just go to the hospital.

I've been in a similar situation and my mhs has sucked.  Very poor service in every sense of the word.  I've had to deal with suicidal crises alone.

I would contact your psych emergency service and if they don't help go to the hospital.  You need to find at least one good doctor who will help you.

You could try posting on the mood disorders expert forum for additional advice if none of the above are successful.  Or post there anyway.  No harm done.

It's going to be hard getting proper support with many organizations working reduced hours due to Xmas.

This is ridiculous. You qualify for help.

After I overdose, my parents literally had to fight to get me put into psychiatric inpatiency because I had a terrible psychiatrist.
I'm not sure which country you're in, but you should at the very least have a local headspace or CAMHS sort of public mental health service that I promise will give you the time of day.
You say the option is out or help: and I promise there is help. You just might have to battle through a lot of misunderstanding to find it, which is a damn shame, but I promise it will be worth it.

Suicide will not help and will take you to an even worse place!  See a different psychiatrist, you DO qualify for help.  You need to be on medication and in therapy for why you are feeling so hopeless.  I know this feeling all too well, and we need to keep fighting and eventually we see the light at the end of the tunnel. You were put here for a reason, and deserve and can have a happy life, please don't give up on you or your life!  I know it can be very difficult, but trust me...it's worth the fight!  There are good and bad doctors out there, sounds like you got a bad one, so seek help with another and go from there. You can talk to us anytime, we understand and do care.  There are many wonderful people here who are always willing to help.  So, know you're not alone.  Keep talking to us, and make an appt. with a new psychiatrist. You can get beyond this, stay strong and take care.
