My daughters blood test result for "serotonin, ser" was very low, below normal range. The endocrinologist told her that lower is better. Was he correct? What does this mean? She suffers from gastrointestinal problems but does not have chrons or colitis, possibly IBS. She is also experiencing "hot flashes", sleeplesness, and anxiety. She is taking anti-depressants and warfarin for a clotting disorder. She is 32 years old.
I thought low blood serotonin levels contribute to depression, why is this doctor telling her that low serum serotonin is better?
