Zoloft Side Effect?

I have been on Zoloft now for 2 weeks and Flagyl for 5 days. Last Wednesday I jumped out of my sleep gasping; I know I wasn't dreaming but I wasn't sure what happened. Yesterday, Thursday I was still in bed, lying on my side, I wasn't sleeping but my eyes were closed. I felt what I can only describe as if I was zapped in my lower back with something (maybe electrical and, I am almost certain I heard a pop) that caused my body to actually react by contorting.

The jolt/zap happened in split seconds - it was fast and intense and just as I woke gasping on Wednesday I made a brief gasp on Thursday. The zap wasn't exactly painful but on Thursday it left me feeling anxious and a bit nauseous.

I am just curious to know if anyone has ever experience anything of this nature?

" I felt it this morning but it was far less intense than my 2 previous experience. "

That's great.  That sounds very much like whatever it is (possibly side effects) is starting to improve, which is exactly what you would expect to see.

Keep us in the loop!

Thanks for your reply.

I do take the pills in the morning and I'll definitely watch what's been happening.  I felt it this morning but it was far less intense than my 2 previous experience.

Thanks again.

Hello there!

It sounds like you're having almost "sleep paralysis" type experiences.  Zoloft can definitely cause some initial start up side effects, like an increase in anxiety, and sleep disturbances.  Could be side effects.  Most initial side effects will start to abate by about week two.  When do you take the Zoloft?  In the morning, or at night?

If you take it at bedtime, ask your doc if you can switch it up and take it in the am.  That shouldn't be a problem, and it may help.  Keep an eye on things, most certainly let your doctor know about it.  I think it's something you'll probably have to kind of monitor.

Remember, it can take up to 4-6 weeks before you really start noticing the positive effects of Zoloft, so you have a few weeks to go before you can really fairly assess whether or not it's working for you.

Try to hang in there, and keep your doc in the loop.  Trying a different time may be all that you need.  Let us know how you're doing!
