Venlafaxine(Effexor) and Insomnia?

I started taking 75mg of venlafaxine yesterday around 12pm and I noticed my pupils were instantly dilated and I have endless energy.  Honestly I feel GREAT and am ready to take on the world... but not sleep.  It's 6:17am and I haven't had a wink of sleep yet.  Will this problem get better in time?

The doctor probably should have started you on a lower does (37.5mg).

I was put on 75mg once and had the same exact problem, I didn't sleep for days. I stopped taking them because the lack of sleep was causing more anxiety than I already had...

People said that the insomnia would go away after a few weeks, but I couldn't see staying awake for two weeks.

Ahahaha always great to look here for medical advice. here is what happened:

-She was misdiagnosed, very likely with depression
-She was prescribed an SNRI for relief
-It turns out she has bipolar disorder Type I
-She goes hypomanic, which would have soon turned into batshit mania

---> Immediant admission into psychiatric care!!!!

This has happened to millions of bipolar patients before her. Feeling "GREAT" hours after the first pill is a telltale sign. I wonder how this turned out. :/

I have just started taking the starter dose of 37.5mg 3 days ago and I did not sleep all last night. I am tired now though and did nap today. Definitely in the no sleep case take in am. in time our systems adjust to it and that "wired" and unable to sleep side effect should decrease. My Dr plans to increase me to 150mg which is normal and I think that will be ok.

Lay off caffeine for a while. If you normally consume coffee or sodas just have less or none or make it decaf.

I just started taking 75 of effexor today and i took it about2:OO this afternoon.
it got so intense by about 9:00 this evening I took both my 2mg klonepin and 30mg restoril , it feels just like meth, I don't think I'll get any sleep
tonite but at least I'll feel good. This has been a great  blessing for me.
I was suffering such severe depression I could barely get around. Now
I'm up again typing my experimental writings on my website to my publisher and doing a 1000 percent better.

I am on 150mg of Effexor (Venlafaxine) and have been for a number of years.  I take one tablet with my breakfast.

My sleep is not too bad.  Perhaps it would be better if you took your medication all in one in the morning, and see how you go.

I have been taking this medication as well and I have been having alot of problems sleeping with it as well. i have noticed alot of people in here are having the same symptoms I am. I take it twice a day by doctors recommendation's. my question is... Is that wrong to do and is it okay ? I don't know. I need alot of advice. I think I am taking it way to much. I take one in the morning and 2 75mg at night and when I do... I don't sleep at all.

Hey, how are you getting on.  I have been wondering if things are any different for you now.  Are you still not sleeping and full of energy?

I too am on effexor at was 150mg daily for a good 8 months and now 112.5mg daily for the past 7 months. I have many nights when I cannot sleep although do not get the endless energy its more like the lethargic end of the scale for me. Even if I do sleep I feel like I haven't. It is just a classic side effect and I wouldn't worry about it. If it does start to really disrupt you though just mention it to your GP and maybe there is some technique that you could try to wind down before trying to sleep or something.

I have been on Effexor for 2 years.  I just feel normal, I don't have endless energy like you.  Yes, I have problems sleeping.  I have not connected that to the drug.  I just accept that sometimes sleep is elusive.  Seems you are reacting to this drug differently to me.  Can you carry on with this endless energy.

I am 150mg daily and you are on a much lower dose.  It is up to you whether lack of sleep versus endless energy is worth it.

I would definitely let your doctor know, just to be on the safe side.
