Supplements for Anhedonia

My focus is on treatment and what I need that could help me and I am currently experiencing anhedonia that is there all the time everyday despite the fact that the depression itself is gone.

Now I realize that scientific theories regarding depression and anhedonia are just theories--they are not facts.  But I am willing to try supplements and such according to scientific theories to see if they help or not.

One of these theories regarding anhedonia is right here:

Scientists identify potential target for treating anhedonia - major symptom of depression

Since melanocortins might be the problem here, could you give me the name of the supplements and such that I need to take that will address this issue with the melanocortins (like something that will block the MC4 receptor or anything else I need to take that will somehow address this issue with the melanocortins in a different way)?

Anhedonia can also be caused by meds. That is what happened to me. I lived that way for far too long. Once off meds and completely out of my system, Anhedonia was gone. This is not the case for everyone, just sharing .

I am suffering from severe depression and Anhedonia!  It's so bad that I literally can't make myself get out of bed to get something to drink without massive effort! I won't kill myself but I wish I was dead. I have a top notch psychiatrist who is a leader in research. I took part in a several week long
ketamine study. Unfortunately I did not respond positively to the drug.
I'm also researching nootropics for possible relieve from my depression and especially my anhedonia.

I am particularly interested in dopermergenics because dopamine controls voluntary muscle movement, which is why anhedonia keeps you from 'just doing  it', to borrow a phrase from Nike. Also dopamine is what produces that feeling of reward, fun, joy, enjoyment, etc!

Have you tried SAMe?

I'm also experiencing anhedonia.

I've been keeping a couple ginseng capsules about the house in reach and drink one if I get stuck.

That gives me enough energy to go exercise or eat something at the least.

Best of luck!

I have been diagnosised with Anadonia and was prescribed Deplin which is a breakdown of folic acid per my pscy doc. I have Bipolar and anxiety as well and I'm treated for that with one med. I do not have long periods of depression at all. I have had Anadonia for a long time, long before my dx. I didn't even know what it was. But I certainly new what my sx were. I suggest you see a new pscychiatrist and try to get reccomendations for one from people. I know how you feel. The sx really effect your life. For me I just learned to live with it until my doc brought it up. Btw, Deplin is a prescription and you can also get coupons on line to help you out.

Since nobody can talk to you without a circular tautological argument arising at this point, there are no supplements to treat anhedonia because it isn't a condition, it's a side effect of depression in your case, so you treat the depression.  Buy a book by Hyla Cass called Natural Highs; she's a psychiatrist at UCLA who uses natural remedies in her practice.  You'll find an overview of natural remedies used to treat depression there.  As for your psychiatrist, why don't you get another?  I agree, this one seems to be wrong about you, you're not delusional, you're just obstinate and strongly obsessive in your thinking.

This would be because the psychiatrist I have does not believe I have anhedonia and is instead thinking I am just being delusional in regards to my pleasure centers being "shut down" and has prescribed me zyprexa (a medication for people who are delusional and psychotic which is not who I am at all).

As for seeing a professional, that would cost a lot of money and we don't have that money.  And also because my family just believes to just not think or worry about it and to just simply "do my best" and not spend such money on worrying about my condition.

Anhedonia IS a symptom of depression, so how could you conclude that your depression is gone?  In a week?  A day?

WHY won't you just go get evaluated by a professional and see what THEY have to say and what they recommend?  Why are you trying to treat yourself?
