Will it ever change? depressed and no change

I have had a psychotic breakdown in Jan 2013 and since then major depression, felt so bad tried to kill myself with an overdose in June and since then started on venlefaxine up to 225mg to present-previously was on Prozac 40mg. I am so fed up of feeling nothing from anything, wanting to eat all the time and everday being the same-tearful and no hope. is it possible another SSRI would work for me rather than the SNRI I am taking? I am doing voluntary work with the animal shelter, have a light box, exercising, going to group therapy and a session of person centred therapy weekly also have psychological therapy due in March 2014 and eating wholegrains, friut, veg no alcohol, limited caffeine and seeing a few friends. So you probably see why I am so frustrated. Does it change in stages? Does your brain shift in its own time? I'd really appreciate any feedback, nearly 9 months of constant misery and I thought I may experience a little lift? Thanks a lot Miserable and fed-up of being fed-up.

Sure. There is always hope. I'm house bound, bed ridden & I feel better when I think I've helped someone.
I've run large company's .  I've also been so sick I've lost the ability to speak.         Depression isn't the end of the world. Some people feel better when they make a gratitude list. I'm grateful I'm not in a place where I am starving to death. I'm grateful I can see. You know.
Write a journal of all the things you are going to do when you feel stronger.
Get some self help tapes from the library. Or listen on you tube. In the US we have free support groups. Do they have that in England?
I know what you mean about weight gain. Zyprexa really packed the lbs on me. I think in stones it was 2.  I've lost about 1/2 stone so far. Pamela

Thanks for your post. Saw the psych yesterday,he wanted to put me on mirtazipine with venlefaxine but I flatly refused as that would make me put on loads of  weight and even more obsessed over body image-as i have always had a problem with that too. When i was in hopsitial they put me on olanzapine and then abilify-made me gain over a stone in weight and it took me an age to get it off, I am now struggling to not eat all the time as it is. I am now on a switch over to Lustral (Zoloft in the usa) due to start in 12 days. He wouldn't start me on a dose with the reduction in Venlefaxine as he said he didn't want me to get a 'false ilft' from excess serotonin as the venlefaxine is tapered off. They argue over wether I am borderline personality disorder, bipolar (which I think is rubbish) or rreactive depression due to traumatic death of partner and being an ex addict. I am just so fed up off being this low-I have suffered depression in the past but never ever this bad. Just wondered if there is a natural life to wards the end of a major reactive depression or any hope? thanks again

Hi there. I can only speak from my own experience. I do had an episode in March of this year. My diagnosis is different from yours. So the treatment was different too. Did you ever feel like you came out of the episode/ breakdown ?
That was the first step. My Pdoc put me on a med. I gained 30 lbs in one month. I was over the ridge, but now depressed about my body image.
Do they share med discussions in your group? In my group , Wellbutrin & Cymbalta seem to be the most popular. I guess you'll find out when you see the psychiatrist.        Feel better. Pamela
