depersonalization. what thoughts...?

what are some of the more outlandish thought processes that you feel going on in the back of your head while trying to live your normal life with DP?  something that may not be your average "textbook" things...

Me, when I look at people, sometimes it feels like Im looking at walking pieces of "meat".  empty, soulless, lifeless things.  my mind tries to find what makes them "human", or real...

anyone??

LOL I too think of these strange things. I look at people like animals - I don't like to use the phrase "dumb animals" because I don't want to insult the itelligence of animals. But it's true. I watch people like I would be watching birds or watching a porcupine trying to figure out how to cross one of those concreate barriers on the highway. Or two robins duking it out over a worm in my yard. I feel that all our sophisticated intelligence and powers of reason and creativity are all just flavourless sprinkles on the identical nut loafs all animals really are.

Another one of my weired depressice philosophies is that the meaning of life is simply to enterain yourself until you die. It sounds morbid, but I find it comforting. Nature created us as a paradox, I think. We live to reproduce, and our offspring reproduce. To do that we must stay alive as long as possible. To do THAT, we must eat, and protect ourselves. But what it really boils down to is just keeping busy. Humans in "developed" society don't have that problem so much as animals. We don't have to devote every waking hour of our time to these things. So what do we do in the meantime??

We make stuff up. We create television and books. We keep flower gardens. We fight about politics. We create gangs and shoot each other, or go to church. We try to make the world a better place. We strive to satisfy our imaginations. Whatever it is, no matter how serious, grusome, simple, etc, if it does not have to do with nature's needs (eat, sleep, stay safe, reproduce, and associate) all the rest is simply filler. Paying off your mortgage is not a need so much as not getting your *** eaten by a predator is a need. A mortage is something we made up and now it and everything else is just entertainment.

"Entertainment" is not always fun, by the way. It's just stuff that keeps us busy.

So yeah, I too think of weired stuff when I get in that zoned out daze. You're not alone!

Depends on the cause. As mine is neurological I can look back on it and say its "not real" when it happens.. If its purely psychiatric it depends on how much its invaded your thought process. If its fully treated by medication and you are seeing a talk therapist you might try cognitive behavioral therapy. The thing to understand is that it is outside of your normal thought process and how to view it that way.
