HI everyone. I am a 56 year old woman and I have been extremely depressed for over two years. Lots of anxiety too. I have tried different medication but nothing helps. I think about suicide all the time> Latey I have been taking zquil at night and also during the day to make me sleep, I t is too unbearable to be awake and I just want to go back to sleep because that is the only time I am not suffering.  I miss my old life and old self. I used to be a happy person. Now I don't feel like doing anything because I never feel pleasure or happiness no matter what I do. It started after a surgery 2 1/2 years ago. It was cosmetic and when I looked in the mirror the next day I hated it and felt suicidal. I have felt that way ever since. I constantly compare myself to other people and feel envious when I see others laughing and havng a good time, because I want to do that too. DO people actually recover from this?

I understand how you feel.... I wish i could tell you it gets better-- but I dont know. I feel the same way. Sleep seems to be the only release for  me too all too often. I'm 42, bipolar and have fibromyalgia with it. plus many other stressors i wont go into listing...... I have no motivation, either..... at least now we know we are not alone....... prayers of love & light.....

Sorry to hear that you are feeling so rock bottom and that the cosmetic surgery didn't turn out the way you hoped it would have.

Is there any chance of you getting that corrected?

You are 56.  Have you been through the menopause?  The change of life can affect mood and cause other unpleasant health problems and depression.

To help you to feel mentally better, go for walks outside.  Start of with a short walk and build the time up gradually.  It is surprising how having a walk in the fresh air and doing physical exercise boosts the mood.

Arrange to meet with friends and engage in hobbies or any interests.  I know this is going to be hard, because with depression you feel like locking yourself away from everything and everyone.  Just make yourself do things step by step.

Put some lively music on to help boost your mood.

If your medication is not working for you, make an appointment to see your doctor to see if there is an alternative and a more suitable medication that would suit you better.

You may benefit from counselling that your doctor could refer you to.

Wishing you well.
