Basal Cell Carcinoma

I recently had surgery to remove a Basal Cell Carcinoma.  My problem is, I think they over did the surgery if you know what I mean.  Could somebody please let me know if they agree with me?  Thanks!

Thanks very much Jemma, I really appreciate your comments and direction. :)

Yes, I was just worried about it all.  The doctor gave me Tylenol #4, and the pain is still there.  I requested a stronger medication and the doctor requested that I come back in for a re-evaluation today, with another doctor being present as the doctor that did the surgery is relatively new to this office.  So it should be interesting.  Thank you again for your help it is very much appreciated.

I have copied and pasted the link below that explains about the removal of basal cell carcinomas.  It explains that a margin of normal skin cells needs to be removed to stop any regrowth of the cancer.

I trust this will explain why you had to have such a long incision.

Having seen your hand with the stitches, it does seem rather long compared to this picture.    But, we do not know of any bad tissue that had to be removed.  What you see on the surface is not always the same underneath the skin.

As you are concerned of the very long scar, speak with the consultant surgeon or your doctor to find out why the cut had to be done so long.

Wishing you  a speedy recovery.
