Best moisturizer for dry skin in cold weather

My skin dries out, some areas get scaly and itchy during the cold, dry winter weather when the humidity is low, especially my hands and arms. During warmer, more humid weather it isn't a problem. Other body areas are affected also, to a lesser degree. My stomach and legs, shoulders itch as well.

I have been using Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Healing Lotion. It helps some, but I need to use it at least 2x a day be of much effect. It isn't greasy and absorbs well. I apply it to the affected areas after my evening shower. I use olive oil and goat's milk soaps. Stopped using traditional soap several years ago, love these. I enjoy the different aromas, and they lather well and rinse clear leaving no residue behind. Our city water is very hard, off the scale on a hardness test kit strip.

I have heard of Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Skin Therapy lotion, but have yet to try it. Anyone used it? I am interested in reviews between these two products, what has been the best for you and why. Guess it drives you a bit nuts when you have trouble getting rid of dry skin itch

If you haven't discovered 'Made from Earth' yet, their "Vitamin Enhanced Moisturizer" cream is marvelous. It's worth every penny - a jar will last you forever since there's no water in it, it's a very concentrated and rich emulsion of  natural ingredients. it heals uncomfortable dry patches anywhere on your body, it softens cuticles, it makes a great eye cream when my eyes are irritated by allergies.

It is a little rich and heavy for a regular face moisturizer for me (my skin is normal although it's a little dry in the winter), although from time to time if my face is feeling tight I will dab on a little at night.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Dry skin results when there is not enough water in the stratum corneum for it to function properly. Too much soapy water, exposure to harsh chemicals, the normal aging process and certain types of skin diseases are some of the causes of decreased amounts of protective skin oils which in turn causes dry skin.

The mainstay of management is liberal use of moisturizers after washing with luke warm water. Soap should be used minimally. Moisturizers should be reapplied liberally during the day.You can also use a topical cortisone (steroid) cream or ointment like dermacort(hydrocortisone). Adding a humidifier to the central heating system of your home or using a humidifier also helps.

If still the symptoms persist then possibility of eczema has to be ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
