Bizarre follicle condition

Hello everyone,

I've got a really strange issue that I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on. Everywhere I have hair on my body (legs, arms, chest and abdomen especially) my skin seems to pop when it's lightly pressed. This is detectable most of the time and in addition the skin in these areas feels sore.

There's no associated rash and the same sensation cannot be felt where there are no/few hair follicles. If I have a hot bath the sensation goes away for up to 12 hours but always returns.

Has anyone heard of anything like this before as my local specialists are completely confused.

Thanks!

David

I wanted to post a quick update to this old thread as this condition is still not resolved, although I've pretty much learned to ignore it. I have learned a great deal about it that might weirdly be of interest to somebody.

There is no visible symptoms apart from maybe an increased level of histamine in my skin, I mark easily and for prolonged periods when scratched. I am only aware of it when I touch an area of my skin that has hair (and I'm a hairy guy so this is most places). It feels like a strange crunchy or crispy sensation especially when the area is squeezed or pressed. My specialist thought at first it was something called subcutaneous emphysema, but due to it presenting all over my body this simply isn't possible, plus I've had it for 2 years now so it's not anything as life threatening.

The things that make it go away are basically anything you apply to the skin, be it water, talc or lotion, although some lotions will make it far worse shortly after they are applied. All of this sounds like I just have dry body hair and I would be very VERY happy to accept that diagnosis except for the fact that I have noticed the same thing on my partner.

I'm starting to think I'm being slightly crazy and that's just how hair feels, but I have never heard of seem anything like it and my dermatologist is completely stumped and admits that it's very strange.

I had a skin biopsy done and nothing strange was noted so I'm sure that it's nothing serious, the only thing that concerns me is that my partner definitely has the same thing which would indicate it's contagious (or that it really is just how hair can feel!!).

Just a curious post to keep it updated...

Thanks all

Hi,

Nothing can be said with surety without having a look at the lesions. You would need to consult your doctor for a confirmed diagnosis.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you need any other information.

Post us about what your doctor advises.

Regards.
