Black eye for 5 months

I was elbowed in the eye during a basketball game 5 months ago and the black eye is still here. Does anyone have a remedy. Home or doctoral. I would really like to get rid of it before a VERY important interview that I have coming up.

Have you seen a doctor? You'll want to, to make sure nothing was seriously damaged. Do that very soon.

I can't offer medical advice but I feel I should share my story..
5 months ago I was beat up outside a bar, I still have a black eye as I'm writing this. I've consulted my doctor and waiting for a specialist opinion.
I have some advice for people going through the same thing..

1) own it, LIE, make up a story.. listen black eyes are super noticeable there's not really a way to hide it. Might as well embrace it, anyone whose even remotely interested in you is going to ask how you got it. Take creative liberties make up a story. Honestly, I wish I did this sooner.. Telling people I got my *** handed to me at a bar isn't going to impress anyone, saying I took a hockey puck to the face during a championship game is a much better story. Even if they don't believe it, its amusing and shows character.

2) make-up if necessary. I'm a macho guy. walking into the local retailer getting advise on how to cover it up is super embarrassing but in some situations required. Own it. You can still see its a black eye but if you have a job interview or you're going on a date it makes it more subtle and looks less of an eye-sore (no pun intended). just be careful, women wear make-up every day and they're likely going to be able to tell. So I only recommend it in special circumstance.

3) It sucks but its not the end of the world. Lots of people go through a lot worse things than a black eye that won't go away. Not to sound cliche but really some people go through life with mental and physical ailments.. some people even go through there whole lives being ugly (*laugh). Personally my black eye is really bad and I've still gotten dates, its ok and there's not much you can do.

4) Move on and don't stew bitter feelings on who did this to you (if it was a fight). Let it go. Believe me, I want so badly to dish back some retribution on the punk but and the end of the day its not worth it. Hold your head high and move on. "The best revenge is living well" - Count of Monte Cristo.

I hope this helps even if it doesn't make your black eye go away. I still have mine as I'm typing this, but I hope my story can help.

Any of you that are smoking cigarettes while you have a black eye are just dragging out the ordeal. Nicotine is terrible for circulation and leads to poor circulation. How is it going to heal without proper circulation of oxygen and nutrients?

Any of you that hardly rest are just adding black eye on top of your black eye, and stressing the capillaries even more, making it hard for them to heal.

Any of you that hardly exercise, especially, doing cardio everyday, are not strengthening your cells, improving your mood, and therefore getting your blood circulating properly.

Any of you that are still eating junk food and food that mess up your blood circulation are just making the problem worse, remain, or take longer to go away.

Any of you that think you can lead a poor lifestyle with sedentary habits, bad sleep, drinking, smoking, eating bad meals, and expect to fix your skin complexion with creams, potions, and surgeons are just expecting way too much out of life.

Maybe this is your wake up call to change your living, since you can see it in the mirror everyday now.

I apologize for just now replying. Time, sleep and vitamins A, C, E and K helped me. I understand what that was like and I hope everything is OK now.

Wow, that is crazy long time to heal. Was it black and blue the whole time, or did it fade to other colors like brown or orange? Did anyone ever mention the possibility of hemosiderin staining to you? I would be interested to know what other possible reason for a black eye to last for 2.5 years! You poor thing!

I apologize for replying ridiculously late. Yes it was black and blue the entire time. The explanation that I was given by physicians is that when I was injured, undereye cartilage (that holds in periorbital fat) was damaged which probably trapped blood cells pressing them against my lower eyelid.

First let just say I understand. For me it took 2.5 years to complete go away. Everyone is different. To help it along I got lots of sleep and took vitamins A, C, E, and K.

I SMASHED MY EYEBROW WHICH HAD TO HAVE ABOUT 10 STITCHES.  I AM THINKING OF GOING TO A PLASTIC SURGEON BECAUSE IT ITCHES AND HAS PAIN WHEN I PRESS ON IT.

I cannot believe that I have the same bruise. It is now 2013 and I am still dealing with this under eye bruise and pain (has healed some) from July 2011. Anymore suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it.

I have seen both an opthalmologist and a dermatologist. I was told that it would heal, because nothing is broken and nothing on the inside seems to be severely damaged. Yet my eye is still swollen (Im thinking its periorbital fat), still has pain, and is still discolored. Is there another doctor I could see?

Hello,
A bruise cannot persist for so long. Get an immediate evaluation done from a dermatologist as well as ophthalmologist on an urgent basis.

Well, my black eye is still here. 7 months and counting. Are black eyes ever permanent?

Hello,
It is very less likely for a bruise to persist for 5 months. Apply warm compresses and take some anti inflammatory pain killers like Ibuprofen after consulting your doctor. If the symptoms persist then it may be due to formation of hematoma because of blood trapped in tissues. This blood may need to be drained.
