Broke my toenail—what should I do to make sure it doesn’t get infected

Yesterday as I was opening a door I didn’t realize I was too close and the door scraped my toenail (second toe) my nail is still intact however the skin on the left side is missing a chunk that healed the nail down so the nails a little loose on the left side. It appears that there is skin or something under the nail (I can’t see as I have nail polish on and I’m traveling so I don’t have any way to take it off) the side where the skin is gone is still bloody I’ve tried washing it but that won’t change—the nail itself is cracked down the middle but stops half way so the nail is still attached at the bed luckily. When it happened I poured water on it  it bled A LOT. I think my toe might be sprained but I’m mostly concerned about making sure it’s not infected. I’ve been bandaging it up each day with a ton of neosporin and soaking it for a few each night. Is there anything else to do?

Ouch that sounds painful.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can. If you start to see any pus or yellow fluid oozing from it, get it seen by a doctor.

I wouldn't recommend taking the nail polish off right now, unless you can figure out a way to do it without the nail polish remover getting on the cut. That would HURT.

I don't know where you are traveling, but is there an urgent care or anything nearby? You may not need to see them, but they might be able to help figure out what's under the nail, or give you an antibiotic cream to put on it. It's also good to know it's there in case it gets infected.

I hope you feel better. It just really sounds painful. :(

Thank you—unfortunately I won’t be able to get into urgent care until Friday so I hope it can stay fine until then. I do see and feel fluid leaking but it’s not yellow or pus. Thank you for your help!
You're welcome! I hope it stays uninfected.

It still sounds really painful lol. I hope it gets better soon!
