Can I have shingles without the rash or vesicles?

Went into surgery center this morning to get my second cataract surgery.  I mentioned to surgeon that I have had a small patch of skin in my scalp over the right eye for the past 2 weeks that burns off and on.  Sometimes the burning is surprisingly noticeable.  I had the right eye cataract surgery 2 weeks ago today.  There are no blisters to be seen and the pain is transient and somewhat less painful than it was a week or so ago.  He decided not to do the surgery as he was concerned I had shingles.  I was vaccinated 5 1/2 years ago (age 59 1/2) with Zostavax but the surgeon said I could still get shingles even after being vaccinated.  One additional question - can I have a second shingles vaccination later on in life?
