Can filler cause a split lip? And how can you cure it?

Hi!

So I have been having an issue with my lips. I’ve had filler for ~1.5 years now (and got more filler this past September, 2021, which would be 7 months ago) I recently experienced this really bad tear/split in my lip which I accused of stress because, well, I’m pre-medical major in school, so it should make sense to you all.

Furthermore, I have tried vitamin A&D ointment (and am currently still applying daily); I have used Vaseline and Aquaphor in the past, and the tear still hasn’t healed. It has been over a month since I’ve noticed the split because of the pain and seeing the split in the mirror everyday.

I have talked to two doctors who recommended me to go back to the person who did my lips which was a Nurse Practitioner. She [NP] asked if I had herpes, and like most of us, I do. And it made sense to me because I was getting cold sores that week before my follow-up visit; I should add it is very very rare of me to get cold sores but from time to time I do get them mainly around stressful weeks. I already have a script for acyclovir (Valorcyclovir, specifically) and started taking it daily again  after the follow-up visit per NP’s recommendation.

The cut/tear/split was getting better after taking the Acyclovir daily, but it’s still not healed and has began to hurt again. The split is not as deep as it was 3 weeks ago. It was hurting the lining of my lip so bad that my mom who is a RN was using Steri-strips on my lip which really helps with the pain for when I eat a meal or drink something. However it is still unhealed and I am going to see the NP one more time for a second follow-up visit.

Doctors are at a loss, my mom (RN), and NP are all at a loss as to what is happening. If anyone has some answers (preferably a dermatologist but what do I know I’m just a student, lol) I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

I am also a pre-medical student, and my theory was that it had to do with the filler, so my self-diagnosis would be just to have my lips dissolved and maybe that will solve the problem. However, since nobody seems to have a definite answer I thought I would ask a medical forum and see what others have to say. I really like my filler but if this is the consequence then I will definitely get them dissolved. But it shocks me that nobody in the medical field that I’ve talked to has a definitive answer.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and I look forward to hearing feedback.

Sincerely,
MM
