Dark complexion does not protect you from the sun

For a very long time, there has been a belief that dark skin provides protection against harmful rays of the sun.  This has been disproven and dermatologist warn it is dangerous for anyone to believe those with a dark complexion need less sunscreen than their paler friends and family.  While melanoma is slightly less common in those with dark skin, those with dark skin are much likely to die from it.

So, we wanted to help dispel the myth that dark skin has it's own protection. That is untrue and dangerous to believe. Sunscreen should be worn by everyone.

I had a doctor, a dermatologist no less, tell me specifically that darker complexions meant less skin cancer.  That's annoying because I knew it wasn't true then!  Everyone should get checked!
