Dark rough skin after years of shaving - how can I undo it?

Hello Readers,

So I am experiencing a problem with my skin in 2 areas.

I have been shaving my underarms and hollywood area (where you would get a hollywood wax) for years now.

My skin has gone dark and rough due to shaving in both areas, it literally has nothing to do with the rest of my skin (I believe this is called hyperpigmentation?).

What treatments/procedures (whether home-based or not) will you recommend to undo the damage and regain my soft skin and original skin tone down there and my underarms?

I am looking forward to your inputs and advice on this matter.

Thank you in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Thank you for your question!  It's always best to speak to your doctor about this as they are the best to guide your personal situation.  I would agree with your thoughts that this sounds like a pigmentation issue.  Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the correct term and shaving a specific area can indeed result in this.  There are some natural things you can try. This article has a long list of natural remedies. https://www.healthline.com/health/home-remedies-for-pigmentation  Aloe vera, green tea extract, apple cider vinegar, and milk are some of my favorites.  There are also treatments a doctor can provide that will likely work faster.  Chemical peels or laser derma resurfacing , for example.
