Dark visible veins on face of a child.

My son is 10 and has had some visible veins on the side of his nose and under his right eye since he was a baby. He now has visible veins traveling up past his eye onto his forehead up into his hairline and by his left eye. I have asked his pediatrician a few times about this but have got no answer as to why it's like this. He is not pale or fair skinned the veins are bluish purple and all thin and branch off each other  besides one that is very thick by his nose. Anyone know what causes this or have a similar problem?

I am a 6th grader(soon to be7th) with the exact problem with my facial viens. Near my left eye, a huge purple/blue vein is placed there but i really dont think its from your sugjestions. If it has to do with those it could be because of location, could it? I live in MS if it is from location, then i'm pulling down the health award!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
From the symptoms these sound like superficial veins or telangiectasia.Superficial veins are visible in normal fair skinnes persons.Telangiectasia are small dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin or mucous membranes. It can be due to venous hypertension, sun or cold exposure, skin trauma, carcinoid syndrome or CREST syndrome.

Sclerotherapy and laser treatment are the two main treatment options. Please discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hi FrostedPz123 - Hi sweetie! I'm a Mama and I hope you get this message. I think you are probably correct, although I'm not a Doctor, just a Mama of an 8 year old boy with something that sounds like this. I'm taking my 8 year old in tomorrow morning to get treated for this, and what I would advise is this: Tell your parents you want to get rid of the broken blood vessels, and that they are really bothering you (if they are). My son has had strangers ask him "What happened to your face?"  I've heard them say it, so I'm going to help him get it fixed. It costs money though, but I believe laser treatment can fix it. Please ask your parents for help, you (and your friends) deserve it!! Maybe you could tell them you'll pay for part of it out of your allowance, or do chores to earn money for it (speaking as a Mama, that would win my heart BIG TIME!!) Good luck, I'll be thinking good thoughts for you! :)
