Face rash spreading

Hello there.. I am sincerely hoping u can help me out.. I have had a rash that appeared at first as a deep purple malar rash but then eventually lightened to red... and spread, throughout my face... The thing is, you can only see the majority of it when it comes into contact with water - it gets horribly red and has spread over my face over time.. It now has a small place on my neck as well.. Now, it is always slightly visible (even moreso these days) on my cheeks.. and for added info when a dermatology place that came to a health fair was checking "sun damage" underneath a UV light.. you could see the rash discoloration of my face (malar).. I dont know if it could be related but my I used to wipe my 7 mo old sons face whenever he came into contact with mine.. When I stopped, it seemed like he got a rash too.. Recently sick, he was presribed Zithromax which appears to have gotten rid or lessened the rash.. I know baby's get a lot of rashes so I dont know if it was related but I thought id mention it.. However, you could always see his rash it wasnt aggravted by water... PLS HELP! God bless!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Although from your symptoms it can be atopic dermatitis, lichen planus or eczema, but these are not contagious. It can be due to rosacea also in which hereditary disposition is seen. It is better to get it examined from a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

designsbycm is correct about seeing a dermatologist and getting evaluated. Can you take a picture of the rash?

keep in mind we do have our "Ask an Expert" forum which can give more information.

Probably the best thing to do is go to a Dermatologist and get evaluated.  They can do skin biopsies (had one) and it will tell them a lot.  Good luck!
