Ichy bumps all over my body

In the last 2 months my skin has produced this irritating red, swollen bumps all over my body. They cover my back, my neck, armpits, hands, arms, legs, and even buttocks. I have a history of eczema, but it only is targeted in certain areas of my body and I have medication for it, which has not helped the areas of my itchiness. It is not chicken pox because I had it when I was little. These bumps are incredibly itchy and no matter what cream, prescribed or not, soap, etc..they are not going away. Some days are less and other days are incredibly swollen like rash, it seems to be spreading. I had my cat checked out at the vet, and she has absolutely nothing wrong with her. She sleeps in the same bed as me and my husband. My husband, I've noticed, has also been itching a ton more than usual. Though, he doesn't have the same bumps as I do, just at the elbows..he says its due to his clothing irritating where his hair is and the drastic winter weather we are having. I just don't know what to do. My insurance has ran out and I'm stuck in a serious crunch. What do you suggest?

Hi,

It could be eczema, sweat dermatitis, allergic reactions or fungal infection.

You need to wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites.

Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene .

Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin.

For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).

Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Keeping the affected area moistened can promote skin healing and relief of symptoms.

It could be Molluscum Contegiosum. They will eventually turn very red because your immune system will take notice to them and they will fall off. It usually takes about a year, so don't scratch or they will spread more. Aldera is a prescribed immune system builder you can put on it but is very expensive and does not guarantee they will go away. Other lotions are even less effective but may help turn 1 year to about 3 months. Best way of getting rid of them is having them frozen off by your dermatologist like warts.
