Itching with pimple like rashes

Dear Dr. Last 6 months i have serious itching in the waist, legs, scrotum. Doctors gave medicines for scabis, psoriasis and anti allergic tablets. It subsides for almost a month and reappears. Itching is strong during evenings and nights. I get small pimple like things, where i have itching. I stopped using soaps for almost a week and applying moisturisers. But no development. Please help me. Thanks

Hello,
The doctor is right in saying so because if it is scabies then it is contagious and all family members may get affected. In fact the treatment is then directed to all family members. without examination confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be an allergic reaction, hives, lice, heat rash or some specific disease the diagnosis of which can be made only after examination. I suggest you an examination from a dermatologist.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Dear Dr.

Wish you a Happy New Year 2011.

Thanks for your diagonis and reply. The dermatlogist i showed said that if it is scabis, then it is contagious and therefore my wife and kids should have had it, which is the not the case. Should scabis be contagious? Can it be other than scabis with the symptoms i have mentioned?
Once again thanks for your response.
Best regards,

Hello,
From the symptoms it sounds more like scabies. It is characterized by intense itching, usually at night and by small insect-type bites lesions on the skin. Diagnosis of scabies is made by scraping the skin and viewing the material under a microscope to see the characteristic mite or eggs.
I suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist. If it is scabies, then you may need permethrin and oral Ivermectin.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
